The year 2020 has brought many challenges to the American people. We have all been forced to address social discord and upheaval in our lives brought on by issues of racial and political struggles, and unfortunately, the ongoing health crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic.
For the VMM, this year has seen the temporary closing of the museum, the cancellation of our annual Memorial Day Commemoration, the annual Memorial Day Golf Tournament fundraiser, and now, the annual Veterans Day Celebration. We have reopened the VMM, but with limited hours, and with health related restraints that have seriously effected our normal operations. However, in an attempt to return a little "normalcy" to the life of the VMM, and since we cannot meet in person, we will be presenting our Veterans Day Ceremony online in the form of a "virtual" program. We are doing so in an effort to protect our veterans, volunteers, and visitors. Our normal "in-person" live ceremony will be replaced with a video tribute to our veterans that will be broadcast on Veterans Day, November 11th @ 10:00 a.m. on our INSIDE THE VETERANS MEMORIAL MUSEUM Facebook page. The link will also be on the landing page of the VMM website. The featured speaker for the program is Greg Spencer, Pastor of First Baptist Church, in Ellisville, Mississippi. Pastor Spencer's grandfather was a career member of the U.S. Air Force, serving in 3 wars and his brother is currently a member of the USAF. His message is a special one that I believe will touch your heart. It is unfortunate that we can't hear his message live, but this does not diminish from the strength and blessing of the words that God has laid on his heart to share to us all. Granted, this is not really an adequate replacement for being together, in person, to celebrate our veterans, but with these uncertain and dangerous times, there are certain decisions and sacrifices that must be made. Our sincerest prayers are that, by next spring, these ongoing public health issues will have improved, and the museum will once again be able to play host to our normal programs and commemorations. In the mean time, we hope that you will join us on Veterans Day (online) and share with us as we celebrate our heroes and their military service. GOD BLESS YOU ALL! GOD BLESS OUR VETERANS! GOD BLESS THE USA! Jeff
