INSIDE THE VMM-October 2020/Episode 6 "Mississippi & The National League of POW/MIA Families"

It's truly hard to believe that it's been six months since I decided to undertake this little "project" of a video blog related to the Veterans Memorial Museum. I have truly enjoyed putting these presentations together, and I hope that, if you have seen any of them, you have enjoyed our work.
This month, I am going to touch on a very emotional subject. The third Friday of every September, there is a national day of remembrance called NATIONAL POW/MIA RECOGNTION DAY. Begun in May of 1970, the National League of POW/MIA Families has worked tirelessly to keep the subject of POW/MIA service members who are still missing in the public spotlight.
In all honesty, I really haven't spent a great deal of time or energy on this subject, but this past month, while doing some research for a video about  POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY, I began to study the statistical data about U.S. POW/MIAs. As of the summer of 2020, there are still over 83,000 service personnel still missing from World War II through this summer. Since my father was a Vietnam veteran and personally knew men who were lost, it took on a new, more personal meaning for me. Especially when I found out that there are 12 Mississippians on the list of those still unaccounted for from the Vietnam War. Of these 12, two of them were from right here in the Pine Belt (Ellisville & Waynesboro).
For more information about this subject, I am attaching links at the bottom of the page for the NATIONAL LEAGUE OF POW/MIA FAMILIES, as well as another link related to this very important issue. We owe it to these men to continue to keep this subject in the public eye and help these families obtain some form of closure.
