The grizzled veteran rises early in the morning on Memorial Day and carefully brushes his old uniform to a crisp cleanness. He gives his best effort at buttoning the jacket he once easily wore, finally realizing such effort is in vain. Undeterred, he places his cap firmly atop his gray crown and takes a measured stroll out to the antique car. It's daybreak and the cows send him on his journey with a steady distant lowing, and he is on his way ... to make ... The Drive.
Thus the opening scene begins, and the 14-minute short film grabs and carries the viewer along with the veteran, played by local vet Sherriel Clark, on his yearly pilgrimage to honor the "for-get-me-nots of the angels." Set to music but with no actual dialogue, the film will leave the viewer speechless as well.
"The Drive" chronicles the reflective effort made by one veteran to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for freedom. It tells the story of a veteran who has an obligation to himself and others to revisit fallen comrades on Memorial Day and pay his quiet tribute. The drive he makes each year is done without fanfare, out of the spotlight of others and begins with a soulful reflection at a lake.
